Here’s a small photo tribute to the mother of eastern martial arts! This art, practiced primarily in southern India, is thought to be what inspired the self-defense techniques taught to Bodhidharma, who then passed his knowledge on to the Shaolin.
Kalaripayattu (also known as Kalari) utilizes punches, kicks, grappling techniques, and a variety of exotic weapons, including the flexible sword called Urumi (seen above).
